Adelante's Origins

1. Adelante: A college awareness and preparatory partnership Enrique Alemán, Jr.
University of Utah
Department of Educational Leadership & Policy
November 2007
2. Adelante’s Origins & Rationale Created and developed by three U of U professors who live in the Rose Park community and are experts in educational research and Latina/o and Chicana/o educational issues
The earlier students and their families begin to consider college as an option, the more likely students are to pursue a higher education
Based on this important premise, Adelante attempts to implement a college awareness and preparatory partnership beginning at the earliest academic level—kindergarten and continuing through sixth grade
3. Adelante’s Goals
Adelante’s goals are:
To prepare students and their families for college by integrating higher education into their school experience and into their personal lives; and,
To help establish a college-going culture within the school and to support the school’s efforts to promote college awareness and the idea that every child has the potential to attend and succeed in college
