NRIC VII Review of PSAPs in 2010 Presented by Jim Nixon, NRIC Focus Group 1B Chair December 14, 2005
Focus Group 1B Charter • Identify the properties that network architectures should meet by the year 2010 • Extending E9-1-1 to satellite telephony • Identifying generic architectures to support video, advanced services and disability access • Network, access to E9-1-1 from MLTS, transition issues and timelines
High Level Recommendations • IP-based 9-1-1 network based on open standards • Highly secure 9-1-1 network which interconnects individual local networks • Access to a wide array of data sources • Interoperate with legacy networks • National and local agencies could share information via PSAP inter-network • Large enterprises should be considered Access Infrastructure Providers and should provide endpoint location for 9-1-1 calls
Conclusions • Standards Work of Critical Importance • Standards must be established soon to smooth and promote transition to IP • International standards work needs to include US requirements • Regional IP PSAPs would offer local control with enhanced mutual aid • National and local agencies could share information via PSAP inter-network
