Meetings in spring 2009 The critical item to note is OceanObs-09 in Venice, 21-24 Sept 2009 Argo is expected to prepare a progress report, reporting on what we have achieved since OceanObs-99 and outlining some kind of a vision for the future of Argo. How will this be achieved?
Meetings in spring 2009 We propose to accept the offer from China to host the next Argo Science Workshop and ask speakers to comment specifically on the sufficiency of Argo. Ask for reports on the use of Argo but also the sampling strategy, was it right for all cases? I doubt it, so how can it be improved to meet other needs? We also need to have our annual meeting, so how can these be welded together?
Option – 1 and following Dr Xu’s suggestion we suggest April rather than March. Dates are suggestive, could be a week earlier or later. Assuming we need and annual AST meeting Mon. Apr. 13 Argo Exec arrives Tues. Apr. 14 Argo Exec meets Wed., Thurs., Fri. Apr 15, 16, 17 AST-10 Sat & Sun free for tours of the city and others arrive. Mon, Tues, Wed Apr. 20, 21, 22 – ASW-3 (50 people ?) Thurs. Apr. 23rd – small group meets to discuss information gained and draft a plan for OceanObs Report. This works IF people can stay for two weeks, getting the AST to stay in one place for 2 weeks may be very hard.
Option – 2 Based on Option-1, but do we need an annual AST meeting? Assuming we do not need an annual AST meeting (Precedent is 2005, Argo Exec, but no AST meeting) Sun. Apr. 12 Argo Exec arrives Mon. Apr. 13 Argo Exec meets as others arrive Tues., Wed., Thurs. Apr 14, 15, 16 ASW-3 (50 people ?) Friday Apr. 17th the drafting committee meets If attendees wish, perhaps tours of the city on the Saturday and/or Sunday. Other options are invited…..
