April 2007: met with UBC administration to review their draft statement of principles (see below) September 2007: met with administration to review progress towards implementation of principles September 2007: met with representative from CIHR We have also had various informational meetings with researchers and development officers (fundraisers). CIHR (Canada’s NIH): Requires all funded projects to benefit Canadians. Recent support for collaborative international health research and matching Gates funding. University IP Control: Rather, lack thereof. At most Canadian universities, the researcher owns intellectual property rights of discoveries. A retrospective review of all UBC licenses has already been conducted using these.
