The Patience of Job “Man who is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.” Job 14:1 “When He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” Job 23:10
I. Who is Job ? • A real person • Family man • Rich man • Honorable man • Great character
II. How was Job Destroyed ? “Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.” Job 1:6
“going to and fro in the earth” Considered Job ? Bribed him = blessings Take these He will Curse You
Destroyed - Job 1:13-19 • Oxen / Donkeys - Sabeans • Sheep - fire from heaven • Camels - Chaldeans • Children - Great wind
Reaction of Job - V. 21 “And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.”
God Won “going to and fro in the earth” Considered Job ? Just touch his skin He will Curse You
Satan Touched Job Boils - from head to foot Painful - could not escape Itching - sores “Curse God and die” Job 2:9
III. How was Job Tested ? 1. Lost all possessions 2. Lost high standing 3. Scorned by family / friends 4. Lost all his children
5. Lost his health • Boils • sores • itching • crying • skin and bones • unbearable pain • fever
6. Wife was discouraging “curse God and die” 7. Falsely accused by friends Eliphaz, Bildad, Zophar You have sinned “Miserable comforters are you all”
8. Thought suffering was because of righteousness 9. Thought God was inflicting this great pain on him It was not God at all

I. How was Job so Longsuffering ? • 1. He had been faithful • learned to trust God • did not understand • will come forth as gold
2. Faithful in his mind • 3. Trusted God not wealth • friends -you leaned upon gold & silver • faithful steward of all • helped others • generous man
4. Faith in the Resurrection 5. Maintained integrity “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.” Job 13:15
II. Lessons about the Patience of Job 1. Most trying circumstances 2. All he had was taken 3. Reaches for God 4. Able to see his littleness 5. His wife tries him
6. Takes patience to endure wrong 7. Known as man of patience James 5:11 Rom.2:7 “patient continuance”

Lesson for us today: Remain faithful in times of trial “Though He slay me, yet will I trust him” Job 13:15 He came face to face with Greatness of God Understand Greatness of God

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
