Section 29 of the Education Act 2011 section 42A • From September 2012, maintained schools, academies and pupil referral units in England must secure independent careers guidance for pupils age of 14 -16. • Guidance must be presented in an impartial manner, provided in the best interests of the student and offer information on all 16-18 education or training options, including Apprenticeships • HMG have set a clear expectation that schools should secure face-to-face careers guidance where it is the most suitable support, particularly for the disadvantaged. • Beyond this, schools will be free to make arrangements for careers guidance that fit the needs and circumstances of their pupils, and will be expected to work, as appropriate, in partnership with external and expert providers

Services currently provided free at the point of access by the LA • Access for all year 11 students to “Search and Apply” the Common Prospectus and Common Application process. • Access to the “Careers Connect Platform” with specific sites for pupils, parents and teaching professionals • Access to professionals area of Rotherham Grid for Learning to download careers resources and publications • Termly careers network meeting – an opportunity for careers coordinators to meet, receive updates and exchange good practice • Negotiated allocation of transition support from the targeted Connexions service (IYSS) for vulnerable young people • Targeted support to young people NEET post 16 to re-engage in learning

Services offered on a traded basisfrom September 2012 • Careers Guidance packages -a bespoke menu of activities • Management information, tracking and destination reports • Careers, education information advice and guidance (CEIAG) support • CEIAG – Quality Award for your institution • Careers software licensing • Careers software training

  5. Forward Planning • Schools confirm if they are going to purchase careers guidance services from the LA by the end of June • Detailed service level agreements drawn up by the end of July • New arrangements commence in September
