  1. WHO WE ARE: The Tahirih Justice Center is a national, non-profit organization that protects courageous immigrant women and girls who refuse to be victims of violence. We elevate their voices in communities, courts, and Congress to create a world where women and girls enjoy equality and live in safety and with dignity.

  2. THE NEED • 1 of 3 women globally are victims of abuse. Every year: • 82 million girls forced into marriage • 30 million are genitally mutilated • Between 600,000-800,000 are forced into modern-day slavery • Between 5,000-20,000 are murdered for “dishonoring” their families

  3. THE NEED • Legal representation • U.S. legal system is complex and foreign • Immigrant women and girls have unique vulnerabilities • 6 times more likely to succeed with an attorney

  4. Tahirih’s Model to End Violence Against Women END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

  5. Since 1997, Tahirih has assisted nearly 15,000 women and girls.

  6. Last year alone, our DC-Baltimore offices directly assisted nearly 600 women and girls through legal representation. Including their dependents, we helped almost 900 individuals find protection.

  7. We are still only able to help 1 out of 4 who call us for assistance

  8. The Bighearted Attorney Campaign • GOALS • Raise $150,000. • Heighten awareness of Tahirih’s mission within the legal community. • Serve more courageous immigrant women and girls fleeing violence.

One Big Heart Can… • Secure high quality protection for a woman or girl • $120 pays for attorney mentorships and trainings • Give a woman the tools she needs to access justice • $300 pays for an expert psychiatric evaluation for a traumatized woman or child in support of her case • Reunify families separated by violence • $500 pays for the legal support required to reunite a woman with her children overseas • Change laws to better protect women and girls • $1,000 prints and distributes enough materials to share our clients’ stories with every member of the US Congress $5,000 can SAVE THE LIFE of one woman or child
