Status and Plans for the Measurement of the Top Quark Production Cross Section in the Leptons plus Jets Channel Ken Johns, Venkat Kaushik, Xiaowen Lei (U. Arizona)
Status • Developed an ARA based framework for analyzing ESD, AOD, D2PD OR D3PD • Add some details • Used 10 TeV Data and Monte Carlo samples to estimate the uncertainty of the top quark cross section using a top likelihood method • Participated in top group event by event validation excercises • Show a few results from Xiaowen • Streamlined machinery for calculating and fitting mock data with top likelihood
Status • Helping to validate D2PD production • Venkat slides • Analyzing jet and MET performance using December 2009 data
900 GeV w MET-topo • METx and METy
900 GeV w MET-topo • MET and SumET
900 GeV w MET-topo • Phi
2 TeV w MET-topo • METx and METy
2 TeV w MET-topo • MET and SumET
900 GeV w w Akt4 Jets • Jet n and pt
900 GeV w Akt4 Jets • Jet eta and dPhi
Plans • Optimize top likelihood for 7 TeV data • Monte Carlo samples not yet available • Variable optimization in progress including bjet tagging • Machinery for QCD background estimate being built • Begin searching for a top signal from Day 1 • Data samples will be small so ARA can be used before D2PD and D3PD samples are assembled • Continue studies of jet and MET performance
Continue D2PD validation work • Verify top likelihood variables in D2PD
Manpower • Faculty • Ken Johns • Postdocs • Venkat Kaushik plus some fraction of Peter Loch • Students • Xiaowen Lei • Graduating 12/10? Monte Carlo thesis using 7 TeV samples plus jet/MET performance studies using 7 TeV data • Finn O’Grady • 1’st year student
