SEEING FROM A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE What you have experienced in life determines what you see Philippians 3 I'm the chiefest of sinners… (1 Timothy 1:15) Pastor Neil’s tangent “The works of the flesh” Galatians 5:19-21(19) The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;(20) idolatry and witchcraft[pharmakeia]; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions(21) and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. The spirit of pharmakeia is evil and demonic

SEEING FROM A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE What you have experienced in life determines what you see Philippians 3 Number One Seeing the dangers of legalism • What is legalism? • Substituting rules for relationship Philippians 3:2-5“Watch out for those dogs, those evildoers, those mutilators of the flesh. For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh – though I myself have reasons for such confidence. If someone else thinks they have reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee”

SEEING FROM A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE What you have experienced in life determines what you see Philippians 3 Number Two Seeing the dangers of worldly distractions Philippians 3:7-8 “But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ” • ‘rubbish’ = skubalon • waste • dung (literally) “Life is like a vapour”(James 4:14)
SEEING FROM A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE What you have experienced in life determines what you see Philippians 3 Number Two Seeing the dangers of worldly distractions Philippians 3:9“Being found in Christ, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ – the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.” We are only made right with God through a living faith
SEEING FROM A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE What you have experienced in life determines what you see Philippians 3 Number Three Seeing the dangers of spiritual complacency • Spiritually complacent • Marriage • Children • Giving Philippians 3:12-14 “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead, I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenwards in Christ Jesus.”
