  2. Nickel is silvery-white,hard, malleable and ductile metal. It´s proton number is 28 and atomic mass is 58.71. It´s melting point is 1453 °C and boiling the point is 2913 °C. It is a fairly good conductor of heat and electricity.Most nickel compounds are blue or green. It is fromthe iron group and is very polish.

  3. The major use of nickel is in the preparation of alloys. Nickel alloys are characterized by strengthand resistance to corrosion and heat.About 65 % of the nickelis used to make stainless steel. 12 % of all the nickel goes into super alloys. The remaining 23% is divided between alloy steels, rechargeable batteries, catalysts and other chemicals, coinage, foundry products and plating.Nickel is mostly found with iron. It is mined in Russia, Australia, New Caledonia, Cuba, Canada and South Africa. Annual production exceeds 500.000 tons and reserves will last at least 150 years.

  4. Health effects of nickel Humans may be exposed to nickel by breathing air, drinking water, eating food or smoking cigarettes. Skin contact with soil or water contaminated by nickelmay result in nickel exposure. In small quantities nickel is healthy, but when the uptake is too high it can be a dangerousto humans.

  5. Plus info Nickel was discovered by Alex Constedt in 1751. Nickel is released into the air by power plants and trash incinerators. It will than settle to the ground or fall down after reactions with raindrops. Nickel costs 10690 EUR per ton.
