Background • Automobile Innovation history • Increasing demand for new better cars • Hands-off driving style • Super Cruise basic features
Technology • “Lane-Centering” Technology • Possible due to: • Cameras • Radar • Ultrasonic Systems • GPS • Serve as Warning Systems for the car • --http://media.gm.com/media/us/en/cadillac/news.detail.html/content/Pages/news/us/en/2012/Apr/0420_cadillac.html
Advantages • Safer and more comfortable drive • Less prone to accidents while doing less work • Useful on open highways and bumper-to bumper traffic • Drivers “zoning out” • Driver can manually take over car if necessary • Similar to present-day cruise control system
Advantages (Cont.) • Gives drivers new features that other cruise control systems do not have
Disadvantages • Cameras may not sense lane markings • Lane markings fade with time • Snow and rain interfere with cameras/sensors • Drivers may not feel system is necessary • Do not drive very long distances • Drivers may not feel comfortable • Failure of system
Significance of Super Cruise • People looking for new innovations • Drivers may feel safer on long car rides • Next step toward electronically augmented driving • --http://www.motorauthority. • com/news/1076922_cadillac- • to-offer-hands-off-supercruise- • driving-very-soon
