Game Summary of Meteor Multiplication • The player practices basic multiplication problems. • The answer to a multiplication problem is written on the “star station” in the center of the screen which is being attacked by meteors. • The player must choose the meteor displaying the correct multiplication problem before the meteor hits the star station.
Target Audience • Grades 3-6 • Anyone practicing basic multiplication facts
Educational Objectives • This game encourages children to practice their multiplication facts. • It makes multiplication fun! • Resembles a video game • Most students would rather play a video game than practice multiplication. This game makes both possible.
Instructional Use • Meteor Multiplication, along with most other applications on Gamequarium, is an instructional game. • Students can practice multiplication in a fun, relaxed environment.
Strengths • Free • Available to all teachers and students • Students can easily access the game for practice at home • Easy to use • Minimal instructions needed • Not complicated
Strengths • Fun • Similar to a video game • Quick way to practice multiplication problems
Strengths • Provides detailed feedback • Gives immediate feedback by making an “incorrect” sound when the incorrect answer is chosen, allowing the player to choose another answer • Reports the number of “hits” and “misses” at the end of each stage • Reports which multiplication facts the player missed, as well as the correct answer to the missed fact
Strengths • Allows the player to choose which facts he or she would like to practice • Practical for any skill level • Player chooses the range for the multiplier and multiplicand, allowing him or her to focus on certain multiplication facts
Weaknesses • If a player does not destroy a meteor before it hits the star station, the stage ends and the words “Stage Failed” appear on the screen. • “Failed” is a harsh and discouraging word. The player should be encouraged to continue playing the game.
Weaknesses • The results screen available to print out to keep for personal records or to give to a teacher is difficult to understand. • The graph which portrays the results is vague.
Conclusion • Meteor Multiplication is a helpful instructional game from which anyone learning his or her multiplication facts can benefit. • Elementary school students would enjoy this game.
