What is Great About Our School? • Individualized approach to learning for every scholar • Family atmosphere for every parent, caregiver, and community partner • Highly effective and dedicated teachers and support staff • A diverse student and staff that is representative of our city, state, and nation • Strong instructional program supportive of diverse learners

  3. 2014 Teacher Working Conditions Survey Results • We had strong performance (above district, NC Elementary and NC Schools in the majority of areas) • Time, Facilities & Resources, Community Support & Involvement, Managing Student Conduct, School Leadership, Professional Development, Instructional Practices & Support.

  4. 2014 Teacher Working Conditions Survey Results • Some Highlights: • 90.9% Agree: School administrators consistently enforce rules for student conduct. • 90.9% Agree: Teachers are encouraged to participate in school leadership roles. • 86.4% Agree: The school leadership consistently supports teachers.

  6. Growth Opportunities • Student achievement gaps: We have a large group of children, despite the best efforts of our teachers and staff, who are more than 2 years below grade level. We need to do something different. • Differentiated Master Schedule: Diverse learners need a master schedule matched to their learning needs, but currently all students receive the same amount of time for instruction. We need to do something different. • Teacher workload: It is challenging for teachers to plan high quality instruction (think: projects, assessments, daily lessons, and engaging activities) for reading, writing, math, social studies and science. We need to do something different. • Teacher career progression: Many teachers desiring increased pay often have to leave the classroom and our school. We need to do something different.

Organizational Structure Promise Academy Learning Immersion/Talent Development Magnet K-2nd Grade Learning Immersion 3rd-5th Learning Immersion and Talent Development • K/1st Grade • 2nd/3rd Grade • 4th/5thGrade All teachers will teach TWO subjects: Literacy/Social Studies or Math/Science. The 3rd-5th Magnet and 5th grade teachers will teach ONE/TWO subjects: Literacy, Math, Science/Social Studies

  9. Promise Academy • Goal: Dramatically increase student achievement and close performance gaps. • Three Families (K/1st, 2nd/3rd, and 4th/5th) • Each family led by a Multi-classroom Leader • Each family supported by a Reach Associate

  10. Learning Immersion/Talent Development • Goal: Dramatically increase student achievement and deepen learning opportunities for high ability and advanced learners. • Two Families (K-2nd and 3rd-5th) • Each family includes a Master Reach Teacher • Each family supported by Teacher Assistants

  11. Classroom Technology • All K-2nd classes will have 7 iPads • All 3rd-5th classes will have 10 Chrome Books

Key Points for Family Teams • Collaboration will be the key to our success: • Time to build relationships with all scholars and parents. • Routines & Procedures • Team Website with a daily blog update • Progress reports & report cards (K-2nd only) • Monthly family projects (K-2nd) • PBL Designs

  13. Flexible Learning Time All Scholars will have a 60 min. flexible learning time dedicated to enrichment and/or targeted support for basic skill development. Project Based Learning Interdisciplinary projects to deepen student knowledge and understanding.   15. Intercessions • One Saturday per month SGE scholars and parents are invited to a half day of enrichment learning on campus. We will solicit parent volunteers, staff and community members to host 1 hour activities to expose our scholars to a variety of extracurricular learning experiences. Ideas include: crocheting, photography, special book clubs, dancing, gardening and more…
