Western’s Numbers Preliminary (unofficial) findings from the fall of 2008 through the summer of 2012 • 1137 students took Beginning Composition, 834 (74%) passed • Of the 834 students who passed Beginning Composition, 532 (64%) students eventually passed Written Communications • Of the 1137 students who took Beginning Composition, 605 (53%) did not take or never passed Written Communications
ALP Summary Based on data provided by the Community College of Baltimore County, compared to traditional developmental writing: • ALP doubles the success rate of the students in the developmental classes. • Cuts the attrition rate in half. • Students complete both classes in half the time. • Costs less for the college per successful student.
