  2. Deepavali is an important festival of Hindus. But, the feeling is so vibrant that even the people of other castes get brightened with the festival from all across India. The festival lasts for five days and the fourth day is the New Year’s Day in some regions of the country. The festival is also known as the festival of lights. The word ‘Diwali’ also called as ‘Deepavali’ means ‘the series of light’.

  3. Celebration of Deepavali consists of five days. In 2014, it will begin deepavali2014 datesfrom 21st October and will end on 25th October. The five days are namely, ‘Dhanteras’, ‘Kalichaudas’, ‘Deepavali’ or ‘Lakshmi Puja’ , ‘New Year’ or ‘GudiPadwa’ and ‘bhaiDooj’ or ‘BhaiBeej’. India is a meeting point of many cultures and castes. Each region of India differs in food, language, clothing, tradition, etc.

  5. The third day is the ‘diwali 2014’. This is the night of the New Moon day. And the series and rows of lights are lightened on this day. This symbolizes the victory of the good over evil, light over darkness and hope over despair. Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped on this day. Lakshmi is the Goddess of wealth and prosperity. People worship and welcome Her presence on the earth this day.

  6. On the day of Deepavalifind more information, after the Puja worshipping the Goddess Lakshmi, people burst the fireworks in a huge amount all across the country. This does create a brightened atmosphere but is also annoying with the air and noise pollution it creates. However, the decorative lights, Diyas and the fireworks together create so much amount of light that it lightens the sky of New Moon Day completely.

  7. ‘New Year Day’ or ‘GudiPadwa’ is the forth day of the festival. Some states of India celebrate the day as New Year, as per their calendar says, while some celebrate as GudiPadwa. GudiPadwa celebrates the loving relationship of marriage. People gift their spouse a present on this day. New Year Day is obviously causes a great celebration. This is a public holiday. People celebrate the day utmost.

  8. Few people prefer to go on a long vacation, as there is a chronic public holidays. After having a hectic earning period before the festival, holidays come and most of the offices and business remains closed. People also prefer to visit their relatives and friends and then they together go for outings.
