Access To Care Access To Care You will see two charges from Student Health on the tuition and fees statement: • The Student Health Fee: As part of the tuition and fees package, the fee covers the cost of most routine office visits. Nominal fees apply for services such as labs, X-rays, immunizations, physicals, and procedures. Fee also covers public health initiatives and responses on campus. • Student Health Insurance Plan Charge: All UNC System (including NC State) students are required to have health insurance while enrolled in classes. • Students can purchase the University Sponsored Health Plan, Student Blue provided by BCBS. • Students can remain on a current health insurance plan or choose to purchase other coverage.
Insurance Requirement Insurance Requirement There are two options for student coverage: Remain on Existing Plan Coverage Provided by Student Blue Enroll into SHIP online EVERY semester Complete a waiver via online EVERY semester Receive Reimbursement Insurance Card will arrive within 2 weeks Fall 2018 waive/enroll deadline is September 10th
Insurance and Billing Insurance & Billing • Insurance • Student Health is in-network with Student Blue, most Aetna, Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Cigna and United Healthcare plans • Student Blue benefits can be found online • Student Blue plan runs • Fall: 8/1/18-12/31/18 • Spring: 1/1/19-7/31/19 Billing • Charges not covered by the health fee will be submitted to insurance plan (if information is on file) • Charges are moved to the students account after 30 days
Talking to Your Student About Insurance Benefits • Call your insurance carrier to make sure Student Health is in network with your plan • Have your student take a picture of all their insurance cards • Educate your student on your insurance plan • Co-pays • Deductible
Pharmacy • Contracted with most insurance plans • Copays for prescriptions will be the same as going off campus or less depending on the medication • Affordable over-the-counter medications • Other items include contact lens solution, sunscreen, heating pads and thermometersand much more
Immunization Requirement Students are required by North Carolina Public Health Law to provide proof of immunizations within 30 days of registration of classes. 3 Steps to Compliance - All Steps are Completed on the HP Portal Upload completed Immunization Record (Accepted forms of documentation are available on our website). Enter dates immunizations were received on Immunizations tab Complete required TB Questionnaire and the Health History Form Check HealthyPack Portal secure messages periodically for notes about missing documentation or call 919.513.4302 with questions.
Student Privacy & Access to Patient Information • Students over the age of 18 are protected under the Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) • Regulations require that students age 18 or older sign a release form in order for any health care information as well as billing information from Student Health to be shared with parents or guardians. Students can complete this form and either mail, fax or drop it off at Student Health. (Form found on HealthyPack Portal under “Forms” tab) • For students under the age of 18, parent or guardian will need to complete a “Consent to Treat (Under 18) form. This form can be found on the HealthyPack Portal under “Forms” and then uploaded under the “Upload” option.
SHS Orientation Checklist • www.go.ncsu.edu/shschecklist2018 • For Insurance Compliance • Enroll or waive the Student Health Insurance Plan by September 10, 2018 • Get a copy of your insurance card before arriving to campus (hard copy or picture) • Upload a copy of your insurance card to the HealthyPackPortal under the Insurance tab • For Immunization Compliance • Upload immunization documentation to Student Health Services, via the HealthyPack Portal, within 30 days of registration of classes • Use the Portal to enter immunization dates • Complete TB questionnaire and Health History Form online via the HealthyPackPortal • General Student Health • Transfer your prescriptions to the Student Health Pharmacy by calling 919.515.5040 • Get your flu shot at one of our clinics on campus (September-January) • Follow us on social media for important date reminders, health tips and outreach events
