Recycler Lattice for ProjectX

This document outlines the modifications made to the Recycler lattice for ProjectX, highlighting the changes in the lattice structure and tuning parameters. Key considerations include adjusting the FODO cell, accommodating stripping foils, and fine-tuning the tune control using the RR60 Phase trombone section. Results and solutions obtained through MAD fitting and Mathematica programming are also discussed. The manageable uncertainties regarding beta functions and nominal tunes are addressed, emphasizing the importance of beam dynamics studies for optimal performance.

  1. Recycler Lattice for ProjectX Meiqin Xiao 11/20/2008

  2. Basic considerations • Based on the lattice for Nova • RR30 straight section – FODO cell • Keep using Extraction line from RR-MI • Make room for placing stripping foils in RR10 straight section • Nominal tunes set to (25.425, 24.415) • using RR60 Phase trombone section to adjust tunes

  3. Nova lattice function: RR30 : 3 quads in a FODO cell Nominal tunes: (25.425,24.415)

  4. Keep RR30 un-change, replace RR10 for longer free space RR10 Constrains @center of RR10 βx=70m,βy=30m (Flat beam @ stripping foils) RR10 RR30 Tunes are: (25.869,24.319) Nominal tunes: (25.425,24.415)

  5. Constrain the βx ,βy< 55 m in RR30 , replace RR10 for longer free space RR10 RR30 Tunes are: (25.445,24.134) Nominal tunes: (25.425,24.415)

  6. RR60 straight section is used as a phase trombone for Recycler tune control • 32 permanent quads in two families, current strengths are • k1q60odd= 0.0562634 • K1q60even=-0.0568957 • 36 trim quads in 9 families, basic settings are 0. Q603 Q604 Q602 Q605 Q606 Q607 Q601 Q608 Q609

  7. First, try to vary the strengths of permanent quads with the constrains using MAD • Keep αx,y,βx,y at two ends of the phase trombone RR60 unchange • βx,βy<55m • Phase advance set to compensate the tune difference from the nominal tunes • We obtained(from MAD fitting): • Based on this settings, we found an solution for the trim quads • (by a Mathematica program, will need it operationally)  

  9. Summary • Several considerations have been taken in modifying Recycler lattice for ProjectX • Recycler Lattice is manageable with some uncertainties on: a. beta functions at injection point • b. nominal tunes considering space charge tune shift. • Next step: Beam dynamics studies with space charge effects for looking for best nominal tunes
