  2. Polygons: * are PLANE figures. * consist entirely of segments (no curves!). * are closed figures. * consecutive sides intersect only at endpoints * nonconsecutive sides do not intersect * each vertex belongs to exactly two sides.

  3. Polygons: * are PLANE figures. 3 – D! NOT a polygon!

  4. Polygons: * consist entirely of segments -- no curves! NOT a polygon!

  5. Polygons: * are closed figures. NOT a polygon!

  6. Polygons: * consecutive sides intersect only at endpoints * nonconsecutive sides do not intersect X NOT a polygon!

  7. Polygons: * each vertex belongs to exactly two sides. 3 P 2 1 NOT a polygon!

  8. Convex Polygons: Definition: In a convex polygon, each interior angle has a measure less than 180⁰. For this class, unless stated otherwise, you should assume that all polygons you work with are convex! Concave! Interior angle greater than 180! NOT convex!

  9. Diagonals of Polygons: Definition: A diagonal of a polygon is any segment that connects two nonconsecutive (nonadjacent) vertices of the polygon.

  10. Polygon Definitions: Quadrilateral: A four-sided POLYGON QUADRILATERAL

  11. Special Quadrilaterals: Parallelogram: A QUADRILATERAL with both pairs of opposite sides parallel. PARALLELOGRAM

  12. Special Quadrilaterals: Rectangle: A PARALLELOGRAM in which all angles are right angle RECTANGLE

  13. Special Quadrilaterals: Rhombus: A PARALLELOGRAM in which at all sides are congruent. RHOMBUS

  14. Special Quadrilaterals: Kite: A QUADRILATERAL in which two disjoint pairs of consecutive sides are congruent. KITE

  15. Special Quadrilaterals: Square: A PARALLELOGRAM that is both a rectangle and a rhombus. rectangle rhombus SQUARE
