  1. 5.4 Four-Sided Polygons Objectives: • Recognize polygons • Name polygons • Recognize convex polygons • Find diagonals of a polygon • Identify special types of quadrilaterals 5.4

  2. Polygons • Plane figures • Consists only of segments • Consecutive sides intersect at endpoints • Consecutive sides are noncollinear

  3. Naming Polygons Start at any vertex then proceed either clockwise or counterclockwise A B C F E D

  4. Convex:each interior angle has a measure less than 180° Example: a) b) For our class, we will be using only convex polygons unless the problem states otherwise.

  5. Diagonal: a segment that joins two nonconsecutive vertices.

  6. Quadrilateral: a four sided polygon Parallelogram: a quadrilateral with both pairs of opposite sides parallel Rectangle: a parallelogram with at least one right angle Rhombus: a parallelogram with at least 2 consecutive congruent sides Kite: a quadrilateral in which 2 pairs of consecutive sides are congruent, but opposite sides are not congruent *

  7. Square: a parallelogram that is both a rectangle and a rhombus Trapezoid: a quadrilateral with exactly 1 pair of parallel sides Isosceles Trapezoid: a trapezoid with the non-parallel sides congruent
