Thomas Paine Had a grand vision for society: he was anti-slavery, one of the first to start a world peace organization, and social security for the poor and elderly. When he arrived in America he moved to Philadelphia and started his career as a journalist for the Pennsylvania Magazine. This lead to his writing of Common Sense. In this he attacked the Americas monarchical government and other virtues of the British constitution. He opposed all attempts from Great Britain to mend the fences and apologize. And he also urged for an immediate Declaration of Independence and the establishment of the republican constitution. These ideas he had drew great criticism towards him and destroyed his success.
