STAR Milestones September2015-Fall 2016 November 2016 June 2015 Membership Became a STAR Member Community. 3 levels of membership: Participating- Self reporting, Reporting- Certification/verificationand Leadership- Certification/verification with bells and whistles). Evaluation Crosswalk- spreadsheet consisting of 749 rows and 2,247 cells for entering data. Additional development of 749 narratives for actions. Online Reporting Tool- conversion of all data into reporting tool – over 2,000 individual entry cells. Certification/ Verification Submitted data in spreadsheet and online reporting tool for scoring. Verification- staff of the STAR organization then verify all information. Resubmittal for certain credits then occurs based on initial verification.

  4. STAR Evaluation Components Different components have different point levels organized in a prioritized scale. STAR is not separate from the Strategic Planning process, it is the backbone of it.

After STAR, Next Steps Were • Produce “SAP Update” Document to align with: • STAR Framework (Merge Focus Areas) • Regional Climate Action Plan (Compact) Review of current Sustainability Action Plan Recommendation’s Status • Reorganize Focus Areas: • Remove “old” Recommendations, keep ones still relevant and add new ones • Add STAR-related Recommendations to increase score in future update to 2.0 • New Best Practices Research • Drafted Resiliency and Climate Comp Plan Element

Initiatives Since 2011/2012 • U.S. Department of Energy Better Buildings Challenge (“BBC”) • 20% reduction in portfolio energy intensity from a 2010 baseline by 2022 (complete); • 20% reduction in portfolio water energy intensity from a 2010 baseline by 2022 (in process); and • 15% reduction in portfolio energy intensity from a 2015 baseline by 2025 (complete). • Energy Secure Cities Coalition • Transition vehicles from its municipal fleet from gasoline to other fuels, primarily electricity, in every vehicle category for which a suitable electric vehicles is commercially available by 2025 • SolSmart • Gold-required action in Permitting and earn 200 points overall from actions taken in any of the six (6) Special Focus Categories: Inspection, Construction Codes, Solar Rights, Utility Engagement, Community Engagement, and Market Development

Initiatives Since 2011/2012 • White House Call to Action: Public Sector Fleet Electrification • Replacing twelve (12) vehicles with either plug-in hybrid or electric vehicles within FY2016-2017. • Replacing twelve (12) of the 80 vehicles of Palm Tran, its countywide public bus service, with electric vehicles. These vehicles are typically driven 52 weeks out of the year for 42 miles per day, making them very good candidates for replacement. • The Federal Transit Administration will be providing 80% of the funding required.

Compact of Mayors • Now the Global Covenant of Mayors • Driven by COPS participation • Commitment to reduce GHG emissions and enhancing climate change resiliency while publicly tracking progress • Commitments from City under Compact valid within Covenant until December 2018 • Phase 1-Register Commitment • Phase 2-Take Inventory • Phase 3-Create Targets and Metrics • Phase 4-Establish an Action Plan

SAP Migration to STAR Original Focus Areas • Natural resources and water conservation; • Energy efficiency and renewable energy; • Land use, transportation, redevelopment; • Sustainable building and housing; • Waste management and recycling; • Growing a green economy; and • Urban agriculture and community gardens. New Focus Areas Built Environment; Climate & Energy; Economy & Jobs; Education, Arts, & Community; Equity & Empowerment; Health & Safety; Natural Systems; and Innovation & Process (bonus).
