Michigan Merit Curriculum • 4 credits English/Language Arts • 4 credits Mathematics - Algebra I (may get credit in 8th grade) - Geometry - Algebra II - 1 additional Math or math-related credit Must have Math or math-related credit in Senior Year

English Sequence • English I (ninth grade) • Genre • Thematic • English II (tenth grade) • American Literature • English III (eleventh grade) • Thematic • Intensive Grammar Study • English IV (twelfth grade) • College Preparation • Advanced Placement
Honors English • Focused on writing and analysis • Focused on rhetorical techniques • More reading, writing, and discussion • Expected to have a solid grammatical base
To be successful in high school English • Read all types of prose and poetry • Fiction • Non-fiction • Point out words that may be unfamiliar and discuss • Read with your student – if they see you read, they know it is important • Check Skyward • Check the website (www.badaxeps.org) for work – especially vocabulary and grammar work
Bad Axe High School Requirements • Mathematics - Algebra I (state requirement) credit may be obtained in the 8th grade by passing class including tests - Geometry (state requirement) - Algebra II (state requirement) - Math or math related class in Sr. Year Accounting Pre-Calc AP Calculus Business Math
Graduation Requirements • World Languages – 2 credits - Spanish - French possibly German
Graduation Requirements • Physical Education and Health • ½ credit of each required - Physical Education 1 - Health
Graduation Requirements • Technology – 1 credit • BEST 1 ( ½ credit) • Computer ( ½ credit) • Advanced Computer ( ½ or 1 credit) ( the on-line requirement will be incorporated into the BEST or the computer class)
Graduation Requirements • Visual, Performing, or Industrial Arts – 1 credit • Art 1 • Shop 1 • Band • Choir • Small Engines • Drafting • Digital Photography • Or Tech Center courses will fill this requirement

Special Education • All graduation requirements apply • Student’s IEP supports the student to achieve graduation • The IEP must identify the appropriate supports to successfully complete the Michigan Merit Curriculum or through a Personal Curriculum
Personal Curriculum • Must meet high school requirements except as designated by law • Graduation requirements may be modified through the “Personal Curriculum”
Personal Curriculum • Developed by team comprised of: the student, parent/guardian, high school counselor or staff member designated by principal • No age or grade level specified • Should incorporate as much of graduation requirements as practicable
Personal Curriculum,cont’d. • Shall include measurable goals and evaluation • Aligned with student’s Educational Development Plan (EDP from 7th grade) • Final plan must be approved by parents and district superintendent • Parents must communicate with teachers once each quarter to assess progress
