Science Curriculum • We follow the New York State standards • Standards can be found at www.emsc.nysed.gov/ciai/mst/scirg.html • Each grade focuses on different topics • Grades 5-8 participates in a school Science Fair in March • Labs will be conducted once a month • Microscopes • Triple Beam Balances

  3. Grade 5 • Living Environment • Structures of Plants and Animals • Classifying Living Things • Organization of Living Things • Populations and Ecosystems • Physical Setting • Earth’s Atmosphere • Water, Carbon, Nitrogen Cycles • Weather & Climate

  4. Grade 6 • Physical Setting • Properties of Matter • Types of Energies(Heat, Light, Sound, etc.) • Electricity and Magnetism • Objects in Motion (speed, velocity, forces) • Newton’s Laws of Motion • Work and Machines • Living Environment • The Plant Kingdom • The Animal Kingdom • Genetics

  5. Grade 7 – Life Science • Cell Structure • Cell Reproduction • Genetics/ Heredity • Kingdoms of Living Things • Plant Reproduction • Body Systems

  6. Grade 8 – Earth Science • Earth, Moon and Sun • The Solar System • Geological Time • Minerals • Rocks • Weathering • Erosional Forces • Earthquakes and Volcanoes • NYS Science Exam Test Prep
