Education abroad is actually quite affordable! Semester Programs • Tuition • $5000 program fee • $100 application fee Semester programs cost roughly the same as staying on campus. Costs of Accommodations • Type of housing: homestay, dorm, apartment • Apartment options are usually higher • Distance to classes (commuting, local transportation) • Meals (homestay options usually include meals)
Cost by Program Duration • Semester is usually a better value than the summer in terms of value for the money • Longer programs have more scholarships • Fall semester is better for scholarships • Summer programs are a great way to earn credits toward your degree • Summer is a great time to travel independently before or after a 3-6 week program
Living on a Budget • Live like the local students and seek out local deals • Eating out and traveling every weekend can add up • Pubs are great places to meet people but it also adds up • Prepare your meals at home to the degree possible, pack your lunch • Create an actual budget and try to stick to it • Talk to past participants and ask for tips and advice • Utilize low-cost airlines and package deals for weekends • Beware of bank fees and cell phone overages • Student discounts in museums, by airlines, on trains, etc.
