CIVITAS Introduction CIVITAS – cleaner and better transport in cities – stands for CIty-VITAlity-Sustainability. CIVITAS is an EU initiative for supportingsustainable and energy efficient urban transportand mobility strategies in European cities that should make a real difference to the welfare of the European citizen.
CIVITAS in figures • 4 phases (2002 – 2016) • 63 CiViTAScities • 22 CiViTAS projects • 15 demonstration projects • Measures are reaching 60 million citizens • Total investment: more than EUR 500 million • Total EC contribution: EUR 200 million

CIVITAS Expected impact • Increased energy efficiency in urban transport • Improved road safety in urban areas • Increased share of biofuels and other alternative fuels • Reduction of CO2, pollutant emissions and noise • Improved efficiency and effectiveness of urban transport and modal balance
CIVITAS Plus II CIVITAS Plus II (2012 - 2016) is the 4th and current phase of CIVITAS • launched under the 7th EU Research Framework Programme • Focus on the sustainable dimension of transport policy and urban mobility • Groups 8 cities in 2 demonstration projects
CIVITAS Plus IIThemes addressed • Engaging in a dynamic citizen dialogue: Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP) • Implementing city and citizen-friendly electric mobility solutions: Clean and energy-efficient vehicles • Developing "Mobility 2.0" systems and services: Use of Intelligent Communication Technology (ICT) & Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS)
CIVITAS Plus II projectsDYN@MO • Strengthening sustainable mobility and non-polluting lifestyles through social interaction and new media, as well as integrated, innovative transport services for active citizens of all ages. • 30 measures in 4 cities: Aachen (DE), Gdynia (PL), Koprivnica (HR), Palma (ES) • UBC EnvCom responsible for Dissemination and Learning
CIVITAS DYN@MO: The Baltic Sea Region Competence Centre on SUMP • Promotes SUMP for cities in the BSR region by providing information, support, exchange of experience and training. • Based in the Tricity in Poland (Univ. Gdansk; Faculty of Economics in Sopot) • Mainly active through an online platform, training and workshops/seminars (esp. in Poland) • Led by the University of Gdansk, supported by the UBC Commissions on Environment and Transport and the City of Gdynia
CIVITAS Plus II projects2MOVE2 • Aims to base urban transport on clean, energy-efficient vehicles and transport systems, to reduce the ecological footprint of mobility and to improve the health and well-being of citizens. • 20 measures in 4 cities: Brno (CZ), Tel Aviv (IL), Malaga (ES), Stuttgart (DE)
