For the following question, please rate the answers and/or answer my additional questions. • In the burned out building, how did Max help Loretta and how did Loretta help Max? Provide details.
Question #1Rate 0, 1, 2 • Loretta helps Max by trying to untie the ropes on his hands. Once he is untied, Max helps Loretta by telling Killer Kane that he knew he killed his mom.
Question #2Rate 0,1, 2 • Loretta helps Max when Killer Kane gets angry by trying to untie the ropes that Killer Kane had tied to Max. Killer Kane caught Loretta looking at Max so he started choking her. Then, Max came over and helped by telling Killer Kane that he knew he killed his mom. He told him this over and over until Killer Kane let go of Loretta’s neck.
Question #3 Rate 0, 1, 2 • Max sees his father choking Loretta and says, “I remember you killing my mom…you killed her!” So, Killer Kane lets go of Loretta’s neck after Max says that and starts to choke Max instead.
Question #4 Rate 0, 1, 2 • Loretta helped Max by trying to untie the ropes on him so he could leave. Max helped Loretta by yelling at his dad to help Loretta get out of trouble.
Question #5 • Why wasn’t the last question (#4) a score of a “2”? Basically, what was wrong?
Question #6 Rate 0, 1, 2 • Loretta helps Max by tying him up before Killer Kane comes back. Max helps Loretta by yelling at Killer Kane.
Rate or answer the questions based on the next FTM question below: • Did Killer Kane love his son? Yes or no? Provide two details to support your answer.
Question #7 Rate 0, 1, 2 • Yes, I think Killer Kane loves his son because of how softly and gently he would touch Max. Also, he would take the risk of kidnapping Max and tying him up so he couldn’t get away because he wanted to be with Max. Also, he took him to an amusement park before they went into hiding. He just showed his love to Max in the wrong way.
Questions #8Rate 0,1, 2 • No, Killer Kane does not love Max for he strangled Max’s mom. Max didn’t have a mom to love him for the rest of his life and what kind of father would take away a mother from a child?
Question #9 • Why wasn’t question #8 a score of a “2”? Basically, what was wrong/missing?
Question #10 Rate 0, 1, 2 • Killer Kane does not love Max. I think this because for one, he kidnapped him from Grim and Gram’s house. Two, he tied up Max on his hands and feet. And last, after Max shouts, “I saw you! I saw you kill my mother!” he tries to kill Max.
Question #11 This would be a ONE..WHY? (write the answer in your spiral) • No, Killer Kane does not love Max. He doesn’t love him because he took him away from his grandparents who Max loved and depended on. Fathers who love their children wouldn’t do something like that.
Question #12 This is a ONE…WHY? (write answer in your spiral) • I’d say that Killer Kane does love his son, Max, because he risked going back to jail just so he would be with Max. He’d rather be with Max even if it means that he might get into trouble once again.
Question #13 Rate 0, 1, or 2 • Killer Kane most definitely isn’t good to his son. If he was, he would certainly treat him better than he did. No one would treat their child so poorly if he were really a good person.
Please rate or answer questions based on the question below: Kevin could be described as: - intelligent - brave - rude Please choose a word to describe Kevin and write TWO DETAILS as evidence to support your answer.
Question #14 Rate 0, 1, 2 • Kevin could be described as intelligent because he knew so many big words that he even created his own dictionary. He liked to look up the words and use them in conversations which made him seem very smart.
Question #15 Rate 0, 1, 2 • Kevin had many good qualities including intelligence. Kevin knew many difficult words that most kids his age didn’t know and was able to tutor Max to get better at reading and vocabulary. Also, he looked up and understood his own disease at the age of 7. Finally, he took calculus and physics in the 8th grade at school.
Question #16 Rate 0, 1, 2 • Kevin always went on quests. He decided to talk back to Tony D. by calling him a “cretin” and even spelled it “c-r-e-t-i-n” for emphasis. Kevin also seemed to be calm about his disease and the fact that he wouldn’t live a very long life.
Question #17 This one is NOT a two…why? • He could be described as brave. At the hospital, he wasn’t scared about death and tried to make Max feel better. Also, he talked back to Tony D., a bully, at the millpond calling him a “cretin”. Finally, he had been in the hospital many times but kept a positive attitude about life instead of being scared of his illness.
For the next answers…here is the question: • Any of these might be another title for Freak the Mighty. • Opposites Attract • Overcoming Obstacles • Friends Through It All Please choose one of these options and provide three details to support your choice.
Question #18 Rate 0, 1, 2 • I chose the title Friends Through It Allfor alternative title of the book because first Max and Kevin went on a quest and found Loretta’s purse and were scared when they returned it to her house. Also, Kevin helped free a kidnapped Max from his dad, Killer Kane, by pretending to have poison in a squirt gun and squirting it in Killer Kane’s eyes. The last detail is that Max was a true friend and there for Kevin even when he was dying while, at the same time, Kevin tried to make Max feel better and not be scared.
Question #19 Rate 0, 1, 2 • I choose Opposites Attract as a title for the book because Max and Kevin are definitely opposites. One reason is Max is six feet tall. Kevin is two feet tall. Another reason is Kevin is a genius and Max isn’t. Finally, Kevin lives with his mom but Max does not.
Question # 20 Rate 0, 1, 2 • Opposites Attractwould be an excellent alternative title for the book, Freak the Mighty. Kevin and Max have many differences like Kevin is very short and Max is very tall. Also, Kevin is amazingly smart and Max isn’t that good at school. Kevin always does really well on his school stuff while Max doesn’t.
Question #21 • Why wasn’t question #20 a score of a “2”? Basically, what was wrong/missing?
Question #22 Rate 0, 1, 2 • Friends Through It All is the best alternative title for the selection. One reason is that even though Max and Freak are complete opposites in size and brains, they see through that to be friends. They are also friends through all their family problems. They have many adventures together throughout the book. They are truly friends through everything.
Question #23 Rate 0, 1, 2 • Kevin helped Max overcome school obstacles by being his tutor and helping him improve his reading. In turn, Max helped Kevin get his ornithopter out of the tree when Kevin was too small to reach the toy. Max and Kevin use teamwork to get away from Tony D. and his gang by running away using Max’s foot power and Kevin’s brain power. Finally, Kevin helps Max to escape from his father and get Killer Kane sent back to jail for kidnapping Max.
Question #24 • Why wasn’t question #23 a score of a “2”? Basically, what was wrong/missing?
Question #25 Rate 0, 1, 2 • Friends Through It All is the title that best fits because, even though Max is the spitting image of a killer, Kevin doesn’t care and is his friend anyway. Also, Max doesn’t care that Kevin can barely walk and is extremely short. They go on quests together, face bullies like Tony D., and even work together to escape from Killer Kane when Kevin squirted him in the eyes and Max carried Kevin and ran out of the cellar.
Look back at question #7 • A. What fact in the answer was incorrect? • B. Why was this answer still a “2” even though one fact was wrong?
