4. The goal, or mission of… • River Hall Elementary is to provide a safe, secure environment that ensures the development of the whole child. Through successful experiences, all children will grow academically, socially, emotionally, physically and creatively.

5. 2010-2011 School Day • 2010-2011School Day is*9:15am - 3:30pm • *Students may arrive as early as 8:45am ONLY! Unless enrolled in the Before School Program.

13. 3rd Grade Supply List • 1 box of crayons (16/24 count) • 1 box of colored pencils • 2 packages of pencil cap erasers • 3 packages of loose leaf paper (wide ruled) • 2 ream of white copy paper • 3 dozen sharpened pencils (#2 lead)- extra pencils will be stored for later use • Mechanical pencils, gel pens, and hand held pencil sharpeners are not permitted. • 8 pocket folders (assorted solid colors with prongs) • 1 pair of scissors • 1 bottle of white glue • 2 glue sticks • 3 marble composition notebooks (No spiral bound) • 2 yellow highlighters • 2 dry erase markers • 2 packages 3 x 5 index cards • 1 Binder Size (2 inches)

14. 4th Grade Supply List • 1 composition book • 2 plastic pocket folders with prongs • 1 yellow highlighter • 6 packs of notebook paper, wide-ruled • 1 pack of colored pencils or 24 crayons • 1 glue stick • 1 pair of scissors • 3 packages of pencil cap erasers • 3 dozen #2 pencils (plain yellow) extra pencils will be stored for later use: Mechanical pencils, gel pens, or hand held pencil sharpeners are not permitted. • 1 zipper pencil pouch (no pencil boxes) • 1 two- inch binder (no Trapper Keepers) • 1 set of 5 dividers for the binder • Book bag (no wheels)

15. 5th Grade Supply List • 5 dozen #2 pencils – plain yellow • 6 packages of wide ruled notebook paper • Crayons (16 or 24 count) • Markers – box of 8 washable • Box of 12 colored pencils • Elmer’s glue • Fiskars brand scissors (6 inch-pointed tips) • Student planner (school store) • 1 Sharpie or Permanent Marker • 2 Dry Erase Markers • 1 Ruler • 1 Trapper Keeper or 2 inch binder • Pencil box or zipper pouch for binder • 1 highlighter • One set of 5 dividers for the binder • Zip lock bags (sandwich size) • 1 box of tissues • Index cards • 1 ream of copy/printer paper

16. Children are expected to: • Cooperate at all times.(Key to a good school year) • Be responsible for their own actions and decisions. • Be courteous of other students and staff. • Come to class prepared and ready to learn • Complete all assignments and projects on time • Be neat and organized

17. Grading Procedures It is important for you to know that all report card grades are based on grade level work (written assignments, class participation, tests, and other classroom activities).  The District uses the following grading scale for all Elementary students: PercentGrade                           90 – 100                   A                                  80 – 89                     B                                 70 – 79                     C                                 60 – 69                     N or D                                 0 – 59                    U

18. Grading Procedures • Teachers are required to report a performance level in reading and math.  The levels are:  Exceeds, Meets, Minimally Below or Substantially Below grade level. • Students working below grade level will be provided with additional instruction and supplemental materials to help them reach on grade level performance. • Students working below grade level will also receive instruction and assessment on their assigned grade level to prepare them for District and State assessments. • Assignments that are below grade level will not be included in the calculation for report card grades. • Students with disabilities whose IEP indicates “Alternate Assessment” are not included in these grading procedures.

19. Reminders • Homework assignments should be completed nightly. • Please have all important papers signed and returned to school. • Any infractions/incidents will be written using a school-wide tracking form which requires the teacher to make an effort to communicate with the parent (this is why it is so important I have the correct information in regards to phone numbers and addresses). • Neatness on all assignments and homework is of the highest expectation.

20. More… • Please send a letter/note for absences upon student return. • Please adhere to dress code as stated in the Handbook (see next slide). • Please check your child’s planner for teacher communications and sign every night. • Athletic shoes should be worn on P.E. days. • Please make sure that your child has the proper supplies for class. • Please make sure that your child is on time for school (see handbook on attendance polices). • If you would like to speak with your child’s teacher, please contact the office and make an appointment for a parent/teacher conference. District policies prohibit communication by email.

21. River Hall Dress Code • Collared Polo shirts – Solid colors or button-down oxford shirts. • All shirts MUST be tucked in during school hours. • Pants, Shorts, Skorts, Jumpers, Capri Pants must be Navy Blue or Tan/Khaki ONLY. • Shorts, Skirts, Skorts, and Jumpers are to be no shorter than 2 inches above the knee. • See handbook on fall/winter dress requirements. • River Hall T-Shirts or school Polo shirts may be worn with jeans on special days throughout the year upon announcement. • Closed toe shoes are to be worn at all times and must be tied or secured using appropriate strings, snaps, or Velcro.
