Senior English 1/4/12 • Write on a subject of your choice. • What did the painter say to his girlfriend? • Ylem – the primordial stuff from which the various elements of matter were formed – neutrons, protons, etc. Goals - Think about the nature of communication. Think about how and why you should learn to be effective. Improve note taking skills. Homework – Complete “Adjusting Your Message.” Practice, p.17. Do question 4 in writing. I will be assigning points in class.

Goals – How words with multiple meanings might cause problems with communication. Practice determining meanings for different audiences. Homework – Complete the practice “Words with Multiple Meanings.” Page 29-31.Don’t forget the last question – find a term from your work or sports that have multiple meanings. Points will be assigned tomorrow. Don’t forget to study for vocabulary quiz #17.

Focus on abstract terms and the problems they cause for communication. Discuss the need for establishing criteria. Homework – none.
