  4. Start thinking • When were you persuaded to buy something through an advert? • What about the advert persuaded you?

  5. Reading Adverts • Understanding adverts requires us to “read” them. • In order to read them we need to have some pre-existing knowledge. • Thus, if you do not have the required knowledge, you will not understand the advert.

  6. How did you work out how to “read” the advert. • What prior knowledge did you need in order to understand the advert. • Would someone from a different culture (e.g., a person from country China) be able to understand this advert? Why/why not?

  7. Advert Analysis Assignment Preparation • What is the subject and message of the advert? • Who is the target audience and how do you know this? • What persuasive techniques have been used? • How has the image been constructed (design and layout) and why? • Do you think the advert is successful?
