The Idylls of Pegasus was composed by Richard Meyers. This work is rich in musical imagery and depicts the tale from mythological story of the winged horse and his adventures.
Pegasus flies… he is sought by all who wish to catch and tame him.
Bellerophon asks for Athena’s assistance so that he may catch the great winged horse.
Pegasus proves to be of great service to his master, Bellerophon.
The Chimera is a fierce, fire-breathing creature that is part lion, part goat and part serpent.
Bellerophon and Pegasus defeat the evil Chimera and triumphantly fly away.
Bellerophon is overcome by his own pride.
He attempts to ride Pegasus to the top of Mount Olympus to join the gods.
Zues send a gadfly to sting Pegasus and he throws Bellerophon from his back.
Bellerophon falls back to earth and is left to wander alone for the remainder of his life.
Pegasus is free to fly again and ascends to Mt. Olympus where he is given shelter in the Olympian stalls.
His ascent to Mt. Olympus is long remembered by the constellation, still seen in the night skies.
