GRANT-AID BACKGROUND • May 2008 - Grant Aid Scheme expanded - • Most Listed Buildings now eligible - • 35% for repairs – significant change – was 20% for most schemes • 75% for associated fees • 90% for applicants in receipt of certain means tested benefits
NIEA GRANT-AID – SINCE MAY 2008 • Success of the new Historic Buildings Grant-Aid • Increase of 160% in the number of applications in its first year alone • Since May 2008 – received 476applications • Over 360offers of grant-aid have been made to assist with the repair and maintenance of listed buildings.
NIEA – we arecommitted to the four recognised international conservation principles - and the (equally) important principle of sustainable development. • Minimum Intervention Only undertaking work which is essential. • Maximum Retention of FabricWork should aim to keep as much historic material as possible. • ReversibilityInterventions should be capable of being reversed in the future where possible. • ClarityIt should be possible to distinguish new work from old. • Sustainability - Any change supports a sustainable future for the structure.

GRANT-AID – SINCE MAY 2008 NI economy • Leverage investment in the construction industry. • Over the last two years we have committed to investing c.£5.5Min conservation schemes, through which a total of over £31Mwill expect to be invested in the Northern Ireland economy. • This is a ratio of 1:5.7 of leverage – ie - almost £6 is spent for every £1 of grant-aid.

Recent Changes to Grant Scheme – Management of Available Finance Temporary suspension for new applications • As a temporary measure, from 20 December 2010 we now only consider applications for the following 3 categories: • thatched buildings • listed buildings on the Buildings at Risk Register • those who qualify for enhanced grant • Historic Buildings Grant-Aid for the above three categories currently remain capped at £250,000 per scheme per year – subject to review
Capping of Grant Aid Scheme • In December 2009, we introduced a cap of £250,000 on applications. • We have now introduced a further cap of £50,000 on schemes received after the 5 July 2010 until 20 December 2010 • This does not apply to the following 3 categories: • thatched buildings; • listed buildings on the Buildings at Risk Register; • those who qualify for enhanced grant • the above three categories currently remain capped at £250,000 per scheme per year – subject to review
AHF – Acquisition FundingNIEA has provided Acquisition Funding for 10 buildings at Risk to datefuture funding unlikely to be available Architectural Heritage Fund has compiled an online database with our support which lists separate sources of funding www.ffhb.org.uk.
