eGovernment Report • Governance Studies at BrookingsState and Federal Electronic Government in the United States, 2008Darrell M. West • CT ranked 11th in Overall Ratings (Up from 19th last year)
eGovernment Report • Ratings based on the following 18 features:
eGovernment Report • Policy Recommendations Section “The most striking discovery while researching state and federal websites was the importance of consistency. States that had websites that were completely inconsistent from one agency to the next were harder to navigate, because each site seemed like an independent entity. Sites that were consistently formatted, however, were much easier to use because one knew where to find certain links with the prior knowledge of their relative locations on other state sites.”
eGovernment Report Specific actions for government websites • Recommendations we are looking into • Security Policy • Standard for notifying users that they are being redirected to another address outside of government • Providing foreign language accessibility
USA Search • Free Search Engine by the Federal Government • Interim Solution until a new WCMS • Currently testing the search with several agencies • Create an Affiliate for each site • Header and Footer
Reminders/FAQs • Copying content directly from other websites can cause issues • Ads appear • Scripts • Font discrepancies • Notify PMG if System Admin or Backup changes • Only System Admins should submit Help Desk tickets • Next User Group Meeting – December 10
