Promotion of Scientific Research in the field of information and communication technologies The operators of public telecommunications networks (ERPT) contribute annually with 0.25% of their turnover Creation of fund dedicated especially to the research in the field Fund ICT (2010): 20 Millions $ US
Major achievements in research in the field of ICT and Telecoms • Lauching call of proposals in the field of ICT and telecoms • Mission: Review and evaluation of research projects submitted by ERPT • 2006-2010:63 projects were submitted by research institutions of which 43 were selected by CSPT a total budget of 51,396,662 DH
Scientific and technical Interface • Goal: To be attentive to the needs expressed by those involved in scientific research and of technological innovation, we must elaborate and develop electronic products and information content • This is part of the national strategy of scientific research that included ICT as a thematic priority • Setting up a portal (IMIST) dedicated to the scientific and technical information for playing the role of a evolutionary interface allowing it to approach the national scientific community
IMIST (Moroccan Institute for the Scientific and Technical Information) • The Moroccan government has implemented the IMIST as a national center operating in the field of Scientific and Technical Information • The IMIST is able to anticipate these changes, manage them efficiently to contribute to the dissemination of scientific and technical information and therefore the value of Moroccan scientific output • The IMIST entered into a subscription agreement with Elsevier Science to allow the scientific community Moroccan access to scientific journals of international repute
Digital library for the Maghreb Moroccan-Maghrebian workshop for the set up of Digital librarywith cultural, educational and scientific vocation Workshop: • Organised in Rabat, Januray 25-27th, 2007 • Jointly by: • MoroccanMinistry of National Education, Higher Education, Executive Training and ScientificResearch • Fullbright Academy for Science ans Technology • Partnership of: • National Science Foundation (USA), • l'UNESCO, • Thomson scientifique, and • American Institute for MaghrebianStudies • 100 participants • Governments, academia, libraries, museums, and Private Sector • Countries: The United States of America, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Mauritania, Egypt and France

Main recommandations • The Maghreb digital library should provide: • Global resources from and about cultures and societies of the Maghreb, • A framework for incorporating the resources of many types including those multilingual and multimedia materials, many sources and fields, • Content with high public value, easy to navigate, without restriction for use, and which can be adapted for different assistance
Large and free access exchange of information across multiple regional and international networks, • Preservation of resources in a confident frame with a redundancy to ensure continuity in long term, • A distributed, open and interoperable that is integrated into a global infrastructure of knowledge, • Operating structure based on collaboration and open to new partners, contributors and users, • A long-term sustainability for a dynamic resource, growing and secure.
A steering committee was established, • This committee is composed of : • 2 members from each country Maghreb : • Mauritania, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya • 2 members of the Fulbright Academy and the U.S. Department of State. • The steering is managed by the Direction of Technology (MENESFCRS, Morocco) • The project is being finalized with partners to bring the digital library in IMIST (Morocco)
