WHAT IS DATA COLLECTION? • The process for collecting research data/information. • Research involve the collection of new data. • The collection of research data based on the nature of research. • Descriptive research involve quantitative data. • Qualitative research involve facts and statements.

  3. METHODS FOR COLLECTING DATA • Documentary research – using existing data available in various sources such as personal document, statistical data in news paper, reports and data bank. • Survey research – is conducted in order to collect data from a large number of respondents using questionnaire. • Case study research – involves a detail exploration of a single instance of, or example of something such as individuals or social group, institutions or events.

  4. Continue…. • Interview research – is one of the most common method. The interview process involve face to face conversation between respondent [interviewee] and interviewer using structured or unstructured interviews. • Observation research – is the observation and recording of events or circumstances in which the researcher is present. Focus on specific aspect of the events. Checklists can be drawn up to aid both the observation and recording.

  7. The formulation of the Data Collection Strategy determines the procedures  by which the Research Instrument will be applied to suitable Research Participants;  e.g. what are the procedures used for giving out a survey.
