Close combat: The Rapier • -Medieval weapon used by the Elizabethan army • Weapon used for both style and fighting • Mainly used for the fencing fighting style . • -Preferred instead of the older clumsier swords.
Long range: The Crossbow -Used by the Elizabethan military before the musket -Projectile weapon. -Used for taking down targets at a distance. -Uses 13 inch bolts and it has a range of 350-400 yards. -Firing rate of 2 bolts per minute
Mainly Used Late Elizabethan era weapons In the late Elizabethan era most of the new weapons were long ranged projectiles made for taking down targets that were out of melee distance.
The Musket -made for close range -attachable bayonet for melee uses - Matchlock / flint lock system (depending on time) -inaccurate projectile weapon -shot little round balls made of lead -range of the musket was 50 meters. No problem killing people because they never wore armour
The match / flint lock Canon -introduced in the late Elizabethan era -was used to take down walls, horsemen or people at a distance. -shot lead balls the size of a grapefruit. The Canon had a range of a few hundred yards - Used the match / flintlock system (depending on time)
Match lock and Flint lock The Flint lock system worked like this. The gun used a piece of flint that would strike a striking plate, making sparks and causing the black powder to be ignited. It was invented in the early 1600’s The match lock system worked like this. The gun used a burning wick to ignite the black powder behind the bullet, projecting the bullet outwards.
Early Elizabethan Armour -Armour was very important armour was one of the main things that would keep you alive -armour they had was extremely effective.
-made of steel -heaviest of armours -withstand the most damage -it wasn't the best. -the armour was really heavy and very hard to move in -Second of all if you wore the armour and you got pushed on your back -the armour had weak points like under the armpits and behind the knees. Plate mail
Chain mail -made of light weight steel chains -most preferred by fighters - lighter than plate mail and it was easier to manoeuvre around in it -could easily stand up if u pushed them over. Unlike plate mail
Leather armour -archers and crossbow men usually wore leather armour -very easy to move in but it is the weakest of all the armours I have covered -bowmen used vambraces to prevent their arms from hurting when hit with the bow string.
