The Blood Vessels Y10 AADP
Carry blood at high pressure away from the heart. • The blood is moved around the body in surges from the heart beat. Arteries
These are small arteries. As the pressure of the blood decreases the speed of the flow slows down. Arterioles
Arterioles feed the capillaries. • The are microscopically thin. • They are semipermeable. • They look like fingers and are found in bunches called networks. Capillaries
By the time blood gets to the veins there is not enough pressure to pump it to the heart so the blood relies on muscles. • Blood in veins only travels to the heart. Veins
The body has 2 circuits that blood travels in • The Pulmonary (lungs/ deoxygenated) • The Systemic (heart/oxygenated) The 2 circuits
The Pulmonary (lungs) circuit carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs and the back to the heart. The Pulmonary Circuit
The Systemic circuit carries blood from the heart to the body capillaries and then returns the blood via the veins back to the heart. The Systemic Circuit
