What Is The S8800 Server • The S8800 is the newest Avaya server platform. • Currently will be used across 22 different “application configurations”. • The S8800 employs one or two of the new quad core Intel I7 “Nehalem” Processors. • Standard processor speed is 2.26 GHz • 2.93 GHz version is available if needed. • “Nehalem” CPU supports a 3 channel memory architecture. • All configurations use the new 10600 DDR3 Registered RDIMMs (1333 MHz). 2 GB DIMMs are utilized across all S8800 platforms. • Maximum of 16 GB of DRAM per installed CPU with 2GB DIMMs • Hard drives are SAS 10K 146 GB drives by default. 15K drives are available as an option. • RAID 1, 5 and 10 configurations are available.
What Is The S8800 Server (Continued) • 2 each Gigabit Ethernet NICs on Motherboard, 2 each Gigabit Ethernet NICs on Daughterboard (if needed), 2 additional Gigabit Ethernet NICs on PCI board if needed • Uses uEFI, (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - the new industry replacement for BIOS • IMM (Integrated Management Module) • Consolidates the service processor, SuperI/O, video controller, and remote presence into a separate processor (system on a chip) on the server motherboard • Replaces the baseboard management controller (BMC) • Performs the familiar POST functions such as inventories and tests board components • Matrox G200 SVGA Video Controller with 2 video ports – one on front panel and one on rear pane. • The S8800 is available in a 1U and a 2U configuration. Of the 22 configurations discussed here, 15 of them will utilize the 1U configuration.

S8800 Rack Mounting Provisions • The S8800 Server will ship with a Quick deploy rail kit that supports tool-free installation in a 4-post racks with square or round mounting holes. This rail kit will fit most standard 4 post racks. • Install the server in a rack that meets the following requirements: • Minimum depth of 70 mm (2.76 in.) between the front mounting flange and inside of the front door. • Minimum depth of 157 mm (6.18 in.) between the rear mounting flange and inside of the rear door. • Minimum depth of 718 mm (28.27 in.) and maximum depth of 762 mm (30 in.) between the front and rear mounting flanges to support the use of the cable-management arm.
S8800 RAID Configurations • S8800 supports RAID 1, RAID 5 or RAID 10 disk array configurations depending on application • RAMDISK is not used • RAID arrays provides ability to divide and replicate data among multiple hard disk drives resulting in higher levels of disk storage reliability • If any one drive fails, the remaining disk(s) continue to function without service interruption • Automatically “rebuilds” replacement hard drive with a copy of data • If multiple disks fail, server is out-of-service. • All S8800 hard disk drives are “hot pluggable” • Major Alarm • Disk Failure • Absence of second disk on system boot-up • RAID related events recorded in Syslog • Removal or plugging in of redundant hard disk drives • hard disk drive rebuild start/stop/failure • All configurations utilize the IBM MR10i RAID controller except for the AES server which uses a BR10i controller
S8800 Boot Times * This period can be identified by a fast flash (~ 3 times per second) of the power button. Once the power button begins to flash slower (~ 1 time per second) the server can be turned on.
