Explore the concepts of balanced and unbalanced forces, their impact on object movement, net force calculation, and examples of force types. Learn how forces can be measured in Newtons and classified as vectors with direction and strength.

Balanced and Unbalanced forces • Force—a push or pull that acts on an object (can be measured in Newtons) • Force-is a vector quantity-it ahs both size or strength, and direction • Examples of forces: applied forces, friction, gravity, magnetism, etc.
Net force: the combination of all the forces acting on the object • Net forces can be balanced or unbalanced • When forces are balanced, the net force is zero. (equal forces, but in opposite directions)
Balanced forces: forces that are equal, but in opposite directions • Balanced forces do NOT change the direction of the force • There will be no movement of an object when forces are balanced
Unbalanced forces: when unequal forces are applied in opposite directions (can make an object speed up, or slow down, or change direction) • The greater force will cause the object to move in that direction • NET FORCE-will be the difference between the two forces
When two forces act in opposite directions, the smaller force can be subtracted from the larger to determine the net force • When two forces act in the same direction, they can be added together to determine the net force
