The numbers • Dec 16 decision on Candidate Host Cities (CHC) • 12 cities • 17 stadia - Hillsborough • 67 criteria and 82 sub-criteria! • Two inspection visits, 3 written submissions and a final interview • England bid submitted in May and host nation announced by FIFA in December
The event • It is the largest single sports event in the world featuring the world’s most popular sport and our national game. • The Finals take place over 31 days with 32 Teams take part. • There are over 3 million spectator tickets to watch games at the event; • television audience of 24 Billion in 240 different countries. • 19,000 media attended the event and • 15,000 volunteers plus 16,000 stewards assisted in its successful staging
Germany 2006 • 20 million people visited the FIFA Fan Fests in host cities • Additional 2 Billion Euros in retail sales • 50,000 new jobs created • Germany World Cup Org Committee made 56.5 million Euros net profit • 3.5 million more overnight stays by visitors from abroad in the first 6 months of 2006 • 44% of tickets went to international visitors
