Theme • The theme for Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde is that in dual human personality only one can thrive in the one body that the two dwell in but in the end only one survives.
Tone • The tone of the novel the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr.hyde is mystery.
Overstatement • “From that time forward, Mr.Utterson began to haunt the door of the by street shops.”p9 • This sentence shows how much Utterson wants to find Hyde.
Metaphor • “And next moment, with ape-like fury, he was trampling his victim underfoot,”p16 • This sentence shows how uncontrollable and evil Hyde is.
Foreshadowing • “The stick with the deed had been done.”p17 • This foreshadows that Dr.Jekyll had a stick also which was used to kill Sir Danver Carew by Mr.Hyde.
Symbolism • “I shall say nothing until I have seen the body.”p17 • The sentence symbolizes murder.
Personification • “It now lay gaunt and silent,”p20 • They are comparing the table and Dr.Jekyll how they were once both life-like and now are shut-up and have no life to them.
