Strategy • You must generate questions in order to understand what you are reading better. By generating questions you will begin to make inferences about the characters and the plot.
Skill: Make Inferences • You can use story clues and prior knowledge to make logical connections that are not directly stated by the author. You should be able to mak inferences about story events and the main characters’ actions by the end of the story.
Spicy(adj) Seasoned with a spice such as pepper or cinnamon. I love spicy food.
Broadcast: (noun) Information or entertainment sent out by radio or television. The broadcast came over the news of a large meteorite coming to earth.
Unsatisfactory (adj) not good enough The student turned in an assignment that was Unsatisfactory, and she received a bad grade.
Calculations:(verb) the process of figuring out something using mathematics. Through the astronomer’s calculations, he located a new star.
Undone(verb) Unfastened, untied, open The girls string art became undone and she had to start all over.
Vigil Vigil: (verb) The act or period of remaining awake to guard or observe. Mary was very vigil, when she stayed at her little brothers side as he battled his illness.
Ravaged: (verb) Laid waste to, destroyed. The meteorite ravaged the planet.
Marveled: (verb) To become filled with wonder or astonishment. Henry marveled at our beautiful Solar System.
