Long-term Goal • To adopt and implement 21st century Teaching and Learning approaches in order to enhance student productivity and ameliorate their linguistic skills.
Short-term Goals • Involving and encouraging student participation and practicing student-centered learning instead of teacher-centered learning. • Develop alternatives to enhance pupils creative writing and comprehension skills enabling them to learn and retain rich vocabulary (e.g. through flow chart writing). • Maximizing the use of technology, to support development of lessons. • Developing proficiency in English, both oral and written.
Topics to be covered Subject: English Literature Grade: VI Novel: Matilda Topics: • Roald Dahl-Author’s Biography • Character Sketches • Reference to Context (All Chapters) • Chapter summaries
Instructional Strategies and Tasks • Adopt student-centered approach to ensure student participation • Encourage productive group discussions and idea sharing on topics that will promote higher-order thinking. • Confidence building and vocabulary enrichment. • Enhance overall linguistic skills. • Ask questions that encourage critical thinking.
Solutions to Anticipated Challenges Challenges Solutions • Permission from the Principal. • Parents may not approve of the new methods • Availability of Computer Lab • Availability of subject specialists/ coordinator for feedback . • Approval from the Head and Principal after a detailed discussion • Conduct a meeting with the parents informing them about the benefits of the new approach. Also mention the negatives and how they can be countered. Take their feedback. • integrating the curriculum with the ICT curriculum. • Forming a liaison with other English teachers to exchange resources and acquire feedback
Timeline Create awareness regarding the curriculum and the newly adopted techniques/approaches. Create multi intelligence groups/pairs and emphasizing collaboration , Successful adoption of 21st Century Learning Approaches. August December April Focusing on using technology for research and emphasize on the importance of reviewing and sharing. Focus on developing critical thinking through higher order questions. October February

CONCLUSION • 21st Century Approaches will enable me to empower my students and promote critical thinking. They will learn to analyse the text read and formulate answers.
