Keene Junior High School Promotes a Bully Free Environment! • Keene Junior High School staff and students are concerned about the nationwide problem of bullying that sometimes happens in schools. They are aware that bullying often happens during the Middle School and High School years. • Recently, our School Resource Officer, Deputy Talley, visited all the classrooms in the Keene Junior High School (grades 6 – 8). She talked to the students about what bullying is and how harmful bullying can be. She explained that bullying is being hurt by someone physically, mentally or emotionally, and said that these behaviors are not appropriate anytime or anywhere. She told us sometimes students say or do things that hurt others and they may not know it or think about it. She went on to say that there are consequences in place for those who bully others and do not stop when asked to. These may include a visit to the principal’s office, a warning, a citation or ticket and possibly even a court appearance. • The Keene Junior High Counselor, Mrs. Yates, gives classroom presentations and uses video and DVD resources with our 6th – 8th grade students to encourage them to treat each other with respect and promote a Bully Free environment.
Ms. Archer, KJH Vice Principal, discusses the topic of bullying in her 7th grade Teen Leadership class and encourages her students to be leaders by taking a stand against bullying and standing up for students who are being bullied. • Anti-bullying posters are displayed throughout the school. • Ms. Hopps, KJH Principal, takes bullying very seriously. She strives to maintain a Bully Free Campus and frequently reminds students during daily announcements to be kind to each other with the “Words of Wisdom” Good Character messages and “The Beginning of a Hero / Bully Alert program” by Jim Lord and sponsored by State Farm Texas. • We are proud of our Bully Free Zone and Safe School Environment at Keene • Junior High School. Our teachers, staff, and students continually work hard • to keep it that way.
