  5. Endorsements & Career Clusters What is an endorsement? An endorsement is a series of related courses that are grouped together by interest or skill set. Within endorsements are career clusters. What is a career cluster? A career cluster is a group of jobs and industries that are related by skills or products. AISD groups high school elective courses and/or training opportunities to prepare students for a given career and/or college major. Why are students choosing endorsements and career clusters? Texas State House Bill 5 requires students to choose at least one of five available endorsements on which to focus throughout high school.Endorsements will be added to students’ diplomas to emphasize their knowledge and/or skill in a specific area.

  6. Endorsements & Career Clusters When is an endorsement chosen? AISD requires students to choose an endorsement during the first semester of their 8th grade year. How is an endorsement chosen? Students will take a career interest inventory called Cluster Finder on the Naviance system. Counselors will review these results with students. Students will choose an endorsement and career cluster. Parents will review this choice with students and sign an Endorsement Verification Form to finalize the endorsement choice. Students will then complete a Four Year Plan to be reviewed yearly with their high school counselors.
