Various ways to control and manage Nerves, during Speaking in Public.
What is nervousness? • It is the anxious feeling you have when you have the jilters (a feeling of nervousness which you experience before something Important happen) • It is a sensitive or highly strong temperament . • It is the state or quality of being nervous.
One of the main causes for nervousness during Speaking in Public are: • Unpleasant childhood experiences. • Fear of rejection and self consciousness • Fear of the unknown.
How unpleasant childhood experiences cause nervousness? • For example ,when you were a child you may present a speech and the whole class laugh at you. That might leave a scars on your confidence for speaking in public to life time.
How fear of rejection causes nervousness? • when you ask yourself unnecessary questions , like Am I looking wise?, Am I talking smart?, or if you think your point be accepted, then you might develop nervousness.
How being fearful of the unknown cause of nervousness? • According to Hamilton Gregory, we worry that some unpredictable disaster will occur during when we give speech. • We fear of the unknown, because we cannot predict the outcome of our speech.
Symptoms of Nervousness • Loss of self confidence • Shaking hand • Sweating • Nausea • Trembling • Difficulty in breathing • Flushed face • Rapid heart beat
How to overcome Nervousness during Public speaking? • Know your subject. • Prepare a researched speech. • Be familiar with your surrounding (the audience) • Attend public speaking events.
Overcoming Nervousness continue… • Practice, practice, practice. • Before walking up the stage take a deep breaths. • Learn Techniques that work for you.
Overcoming Nervousness continue... • The last but not the least try to eat good foods like carbohydrates and more protein helps you to reduce nervousness.
The three benefits of nervousness in public speaking • a heightened awareness of all of your senses, • the ability to be more focused, and, • an increase in your level of enthusiasm – which your audience will feel as well.
In general • Nervousness does not always have a negative effect on a person. At times, it helps in completing a task much more efficiently. However, excessive nervousness is harmful and may cause physical, emotional, psychological as well as cognitive impairment in a person.
