AQA GCSE Food Technology The course consists of • Controlled assessment 60%- a design and make task where you show you are a good cook • Exam 40%
GCSE Food Technology Why is it a good GCSE choice? What do you need to be able to do? • It’s fun to cook • It teaches you a life skill • It teaches you how to eat healthily • Your use of descriptive language improves • It is completely different from any other subject • Cook! • Provide ingredients weekly • Test your foods on your family • Write in length about what you and others think of your food • Try foods that you may not have tried before • Cook everything we ask you to • Follow health and safety rules

GCSE Catering GCSE Hospitality • Unit 1: 2 controlled assessment projects where you cater for a group of people e.g. Serving a buffet for a group of parents based on dairy foods • Unit 2 1 ¼ hour exam • Unit 3: Planning and running an event where you cater for at least 10 people in a team • Unit 4: • 1 ¼ hour exam
Why is it a good choice? What is a food GCSE not? • Food is not an easy subject as you have to be organised • You won’t simply cook whatever you want and then sit round and eat it, both food options are academic • There is lots of written work as with all the GCSE food subjects 60% is based on the controlled assessment parts which are evidenced by writing and photos
