  2. What is Confidentiality? What is Mandatory Reporting? • Confidentiality means that information shared within the context of the helping relationship will not be shared with a third party. • North Carolina General Statute § 7B-301.  “Duty to report abuse, neglect, dependency, or death due to maltreatment”

  3. National Association of Social WorkersCode of Ethics 1.03 Informed Consent a. Prior to providing services b. Comprehension c. Third Party d. Involuntary/Right to Refuse e. Electronic Media f. Audio/Video Recording 1.07 Confidentiality c. Harm to self or others. d. Inform client prior to sharing information e. Discuss limits to confidentiality with client.

  6. Things to Keep in Mind • Plain language • Language appropriate to clients age • Language appropriate to clients cognitive ability • Client’s language of choice/primary language • Informed consent! • Client’s right to self determination!
