They must develop strong critical thinking and interpersonal communication skills in order to be successful in an increasingly fluid, interconnected, and complex world. Technology allows for 24/7 access to information, constant social interaction, and easily created and shared digital content. Mobile Technology Initiative • Phase 2: 2012-13 Classroom iPad Distribution • Repurpose Annual Replacement Plan Funds • Complete current desktop replacement cycle • Provide one iPad and Apple TV video connection device for every general and special education classroom • Foundation Donations • Multi-packs (6 to 10 devices) • Full class sets • Phase 1 teachers continue with those devices • Professional development provided • Teacher on Special Assignment for support/coaching
Mobile Technology Initiative • Why provide each classroom with one iPad? • Ensure that teachers in every school and grade level can begin to use mobile computing • Useful for demonstration and small group lessons • Will introduce the capabilities mobile technology brings to instruction • What is the benefit of having the teacher use an iPad? • Findings from the national Speak Up survey: Teachers and administrators become more open to implementing new and emerging technologies when they have first-hand experience with the technology and a real-world understanding of how it can be used.
