  3. Introduction • The overarching goal is to reduce the burden of musculoskeletal diseases due to arthritis in the population (e.g., strategies should include worldwide and be able to be adapted in both developed and underdeveloped countries.

Priority Areas to Reduce Burden of Disease • Public Education • Education of Policy Makers (Government and Non-Government) • Access to Health Care Providers with Expertise in Arthritis • Prevention and Early Diagnosis • Research • Sustainability for ongoing BJD initiatives related to Arthritis

  5. Priority Area 1- Public Education • Goal 1: Increase Public Awareness of Arthritis Related Health Promoting Behaviors • Global Objective: BJD organizations will work to establish a public awareness process regarding arthritis health promoting behaviors in all regions and countries

  6. Priority area 2: EDUCATION OF POLICY MAKERS (GOVERNMENT AND NON- GOVERNMENT) • Goal 2: Increase policy makers' awareness that arthritis is a significant health priority

  7. PRIOTITY Area 3: Increase policy makers' awareness that arthritis is a significant health priority • GOAL 3: Increase arthritis related expertise in primary care givers and specialists

  8. PRIORITY ISSUE #4: PREVENTION AND EARLY DIAGNOSIS • GOAL 4: Increase health care system prioritization of development and dissemination of standardized protocols and public health resources focused on improving prevention, early diagnosis and management of arthritis

  9. PRIORITY AREA #5: RESEARCH • GOAL 5: Increase health care system prioritization of research through allocation of research dollars for arthritis related issues

  10. PRIORITY ISSUE #6 SUSTAINABILITY FOR ONGOING BJD INITIATIVES RELATED TO ARTHRITIS • GOAL6: Establish international coordinating rheumatology organization to focus on arthritis related issues in both underdeveloped and developed countries
