The Historic Context • The God of Glory produced a Kingdom of Glory. • Abraham, Isaac, Jacob – Rich, revered men. Each with weaknesses, but each a follower of God. • Saul, David, Solomon – Kings of one of the most prominent empires of the day. • Israel under the Romans – Where is the glory?
They Lost The Glory… • By believing they received it from a Birthright, not from Experiencing God. • “He gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision…” (v. 8) John 8:31ff • “You stiff necked people with uncircumcised hearts and ears.” (v. 51)
They Lost The Glory… • By Rejecting the Messengers of God. • “They rejected Joseph the first time…” (v. 9) • “Who made you ruler and judge over us?” (v. 27). They rejected Moses at first. • They rejected Jesus. (v. 52)
They Lost The Glory… • By Doing it their way – v. 39-43 • “They made an idol in the form of a calf…” (v. 41). • “God turned them away…” (v. 42).
They Lost The Glory… • By trying to put God in a box. (v. 44-49) • “The Most High does not live in houses made by men.” (v. 48)
They Lost The Glory… • By Resisting the Holy Spirit (v. 51) • “You always resist the Holy Spirit!” • “If my people …will humble themselves and pray…” (2 Chron. 7:14)
